Artemis

Amid the tears of morning as she rides,

The dawn breaks slowly whispering the day,

Light shafts portray her beauty in each ray,

Soft shadows echo hoof beats as she glides.

To meet the rising sun that dawn still hides,

And leave behind the moon still palest gray,

the trees she swiftly passes slowly sway,

Like wooden waves subservient to the tides.

Ride on fair huntress of the moonlight blessed,

Aesthetic portrait of Divinity,

Goddess of the full moon after the harvest,

Pursuer of eternal purity,

She chases onward to fulfill her quest,

towards the breaking day as shadows flee.

Fly, fly away

The lyrics for Artemis were written as a sonnet when I was fourteen years old. The structured rhyme and fourteen line format took some thought to set to music. Artemis is identified with the Moon and Hunting and as an Angelic Being is associated in different mythologies with Diana, Cynthia, Hecate and Erishkigal.
